Water Repellency, The Rating System

The test for water repellency is subjective. The Tester observes a fabric sample after water is sprayed on the surface. The Tester then compares the sample to standards and makes a decision accordingly (80% repellency after 20 home washings is the ASF Group DWR standard)

Grade 5 Indicates no wetting, nor water drops on surface.
Grade 4 Indicates no wetting, but small water drops on surface.
Grade 3 Indicates small drops of wetting on surface.
Grade 2 Indicates wetting on half of surface with some wetting penetrating through the cloth.
Grade 1 Indicates wetting on entire surface.
